ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - Headed into Conference USA play for the first time with a winning record, the UCF women's basketball team is on pace for its best regular season in more than half a decade. The Knights quest to claim a C-USA regular season title begins when they open league play on Thursday at Rice at 8 p.m.

Coming off consecutive wins over Tennessee Tech and Valdosta State, UCF is 7-6 as it begins its conference slate. Prior to this season, the Knights had never had a record above .500 against nonconference opponents since joining the league in 2005.

The win over Valdosta gave head coach Joi Williams the 99th victory of her career. Since coming to UCF before the 2007-08 season, Williams has posted 45 wins and led the Knights to the 2009 C-USA Tournament Championship and a berth in the NCAA Tournament for the first time in a decade.

Seniors D'Nay Daniels (Atlanta, Ga.) and Chelsie Wiley (Riviera Beach, Fla.) led the Knights against Valdosta. Daniels scored 18 points in 18 minutes of play, while Wiley added 14 in the win.

The Owls come into the game with an 8-6 overall record. Freshman Jessica Kuster has been named the C-USA Freshman of the Week in each of the last three weeks and four of the last five. She averaged a double-double of 17.7 points and 14.3 rebounds per game to claim the award for the third-straight week. After winning its final three games of December, Rice fell to Lamar, 73-52, to start 2011 on Sunday afternoon.

Following Thursday's game, the Knights will begin to settle into the conference schedule with a Sunday afternoon matchup with Southern Miss at the UCF Arena. The teams are set to tip-off at 2 p.m.
