ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - As the UCF softball team gears up for its 2011 season-opening contest on Feb. 11 vs. Utah State at the Stacy Winsberg Memorial Tournament, UCFAthletics.com will be counting down the days with the UCF Softball Alumni Rewind. The countdown will highlight the accomplishments of former Knights corresponding with that player's jersey number as the team enters its 10th anniversary season.
With 15 days remaining in our countdown, today's Alumni Rewind will remind fans of the accomplishments of Taylor Sawyer, who wore the No. 15 jersey for the Black and Gold from 2003-04.
A two-time member of the Atlantic Sun All-Academic Team, Sawyer was one of the Knights' top pitchers during her time with the squad. The southpaw currently ranks fifth on the UCF career register in ERA (2.05), opponent batting average (.236), fewest walks allowed per seven innings (2.07), wins (27), appearances (59) games started (43), complete games (28), shutouts (7) and innings pitched (284.0).
Sawyer is also one of only two Knights in program history to throw a perfect game, shutting down Bucknell, 11-0, on March 13, 2003.
She finished her career with a 27-18 record, while making 43 starts in the circle and totaling 145 strikeouts.
Offensively, Sawyer made 40 starts as UCF's designated player, posting a .230 batting average with 23 hits, 16 runs scored, five doubles, 17 RBI and 13 walks.

UCF hosts its 2011 home-opener Feb. 16 against North Florida at the UCF Softball Complex. UCF head football coach George O'Leary will throw out the ceremonial first pitch for the contest, while the first 100 fans through the gate will receive a signed 2011 UCF softball schedule poster.
