ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - The UCF women's tennis team collected its first victory of the dual-match season when it defeated Florida A&M, 7-0, on a chilly Saturday afternoon at the UCF Tennis Complex.
"It is always tough to play in the wind, it's very neutralizing," said head coach Stephanie Nickitas. "I'm proud of our players, they did a great job in difficult conditions. It was a great way to start the season."
The Knights (1-0) collected the doubles point to start off the day against the Rattlers (0-1). No. 44-ranked doubles team Genevieve Lorbergs and Courtney Griffith did not drop a game in their match against Kathline Durden and Maria Gomez at the No. 2 position. Junior Andrea Yacaman and sophomore Jenna Doerfler paired up at the No. 3 spot and had little problems getting past Alexis Brown and Bethany Holt, only dropping three games. And at No. 1, Jenny Frisell and Alexis Rodriguez edged Britney Dean and Latreece Olabegi, 8-6.
In singles, Doerfler held down the No. 4 singles position and did not drop a game in her victory over Durden. Frisell, Griffith and Josephine Haraldson dropped three games or less in their respective matches.
UCF will travel to Gainesville, Fla., to face No. 2 Florida Wednesday at 5 p.m.
