CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - UCF senior women's golfer Katie Detlefsen is representing the Knights this weekend competing as an individual in the Dixie Amateur at the Heron Bay Golf Club in Coral Springs.

Many of the nation's top collegiate players are playing in the event to stay sharp over the Christmas break and Detlefsen has made the cut after shooting a 160 through 36 holes. Play will continue through Monday in Coral Springs.

Detlefsen was named to the All-Conference USA squad last fall, one of a school record-tying three Knights to do so. Impressively, she has made an even bigger name for herself in the class room. Detlefsen last fall became UCF's first ever ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American in women's golf while also capturing the LPGA's Dynah Shore Trophy for best combining golf, academics and community leadership. Detlefsen graduated in two years with a 4.0 GPA which she has maintained now through seven semesters in all at UCF.

UCF as a team returns to action on Jan. 29 when the Knights face Kent State in a warm-up for the team's lone home event of the year, the UCF Challenge from Feb. 13-15 at RedTail Golf Club in Sorrento.
