ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - Since entering the league in 2006, Brandon Marshall has established himself as one of the NFL's most productive receivers. The 2010 season was Brandon Marshall's first season with the Miami Dolphins after being traded to the Dolphins on April 14, 2010, for undisclosed draft choices.
He played in and started 14 games this season, and despite missing two games due to a hamstring injury, Marshall led the Dolphins in receptions with 86 and in receiving yards with 1,014. Marshall's 86 receptions were tied for the sixth-most in the NFL. He also caught three touchdowns.
Marshall recorded 10 receptions or more four times. He had a season-high 11 receptions on December 19th against the Buffalo Bills and finished the game with 106 receiving yards and one touchdown. Marshall recorded his first touchdown of the season on September 26th against the New York Jets and posted a season-high in receiving yards with 166 on 10 receptions.
He has now eclipsed the 1,000-yard receiving mark in four out of his five pro seasons. Marshall was selected in the fourth round (119th overall) of the 2006 NFL Draft. He has played in 75 games with 59 starts and has been selected to two Pro Bowls (2008, 2009). Marshall recorded at least 100 receptions and 1,000 receiving yards in three consecutive seasons from 2007-09. He recorded a career-high 1,325 receiving yards in 2007 and a career-high 104 receptions in 2008.
Marshall graduated from Lake Howell High School in 2002 where he garnered all-state honors in football and was named the Seminole County Utility Player of the Year. As a senior he accounted for 1,506 yards of total offense with 1,056 yards coming through the air and 450 yards on the ground. Marshall threw 11 touchdown passes and also recorded four defensive touchdowns. He played in the all-Central Florida game and was named the MVP of the contest. Marshall also played basketball and track and lettered in each three times. As a senior, he won the Class 3A triple-jump championship with a jump of 48-feet, six-and-three-quarter inches. He also won the triple-jump at the Golden South track and field event with a 48-foot jump.
After an all-state career at Lake Howell, Marshall played at UCF from 2002-05 and started 28 of the 44 games he played in. He contributed on both sided of the ball and recorded 21 starts at wide receiver and seven starts at safety. In 2002, Marshall was one of two true freshmen to gain playing time. As a sophomore in 2003, he played in 12 games with six starts. He played in all 10 games as a junior in 2004, and started three games at receiver and seven games at safety. He led the team with 51 tackles (30 solo) and also recorded eight receptions for 84 yards. Marshall received All-Conference USA Second Team honors in 2005 after recording 74 receptions for 1,195 yards and 11 touchdowns. His 1,195 receiving yards ranks second on the UCF single-season list. Marshall finished his UCF career with 112 receptions for 1,674 yards and 13 touchdowns. His defensive totals include 52 tackles (31 solo), one interception, two pass breakups and one forced fumble.
