ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - Two players from No. 20 UCF's formidable defense, safety Kemal Ishmael and defensive end Bruce Miller, have been named to All-Bowl teams by media outlets this week. Miller received his honors from both Rivals.com and CBSSports.com while Ishmael's came from CollegeFootballNews.com for their contributions to UCF's AutoZone Liberty Bowl victory on New Year's Eve.
Overall, UCF's defense proved stout in the Knights' 10-6 win over Georgia that capped an 11-3 campaign. With dynamic wide receiver A.J. Green, widely considered to be a high first round NFL Draft prospect, in the lineup this season, Georgia had averaged 39.25 points per game and had never been held to less than 27 before recording just a pair of field goals against the Knights.
Ishmael led all players in the game with 11 tackles. He also broke up a pair of passes and made one of the most crucial defensive plays in UCF's entire football history when he batted down Georgia's "Hail Mary" pass as time expired to secure the Knights' first-ever bowl win.
Miller, a native Georgian who was not offered a scholarship by the Bulldogs, his favorite childhood team, showed the ferocity that led him to be named both the 2009 and 2010 Conference USA Defensive Player of the Year. Miller made eight tackles in the game and came alive when the game was on the line, making 1.5 sacks in the fourth quarter.
