ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - A promising fall season on the diamond also sparked a successful campaign in the classroom during the semester as the UCF baseball team posted a team grade-point average of 3.007 in the fall. Currently, the Knights boast a cumulative GPA of 3.088.

UCF has made huge strides under the guidance of academic advisor Jennifer Alger, as the Black and Gold has posted seven-straight terms with at least a 3.0 GPA.

The Knights also have improved since head coach Terry Rooney came to Orlando in the summer of 2008. UCF broke the program record with a 3.247 fall semester GPA in 2008, while it notched a 3.108 team GPA in 2010 during the very busy spring schedule.

Leading the way for the Knights this past fall was senior pitcher Nick Cicio, who completed the term with a perfect 4.0 while majoring in interdisciplinary studies with a minor in health sciences. Senior infielder and business major Derek Luciano also shined by producing a 3.7 GPA, as did senior pitchers Johnny Sedlock (3.75), Chase Bradford (3.69) and Alex Besaw (3.6).

Having already kicked off the spring semester, the Knights are looking ahead to Opening Day Feb. 18. The annual UCF Baseball Fan Fest is slated for Jan. 29 at 5:30 p.m., and season tickets are now on sale and can be purchased by calling 407-823-100 or by visiting UCFAthletics.com.
