Orange County Mayor, Teresa Jacobs, and Commission Salute UCF Football's Outstanding Season

ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - The Honorable Teresa Jacobs, Mayor of Orange County, issued a proclamation at Tuesday morning's Orange County Commission meeting to commend and celebrate the UCF Knights football team for their outstanding 2010 season.

The proclamation reads:

WHEREAS, the University of Central Florida Knights football team has won its second Conference USA championship in four seasons by defeating the SMU Mustangs 17-7 at Bright House Networks Stadium; and

WHEREAS, in that game, the Knights stellar defense set a Conference USA title game record by holding SMU to only seven points;

WHEREAS, the Knights followed up that success with their first ever bowl victory, defeating the University of Georgia Bulldogs 10 - 6 in the AutoZone Liberty Bowl in Memphis, Tennessee; and

WHEREAS, the Knights finished their season with an 11 - 3 record, the best record in school history and the best major college football record in Florida in 2010, ahead of traditional powerhouses such as the Florida Gators, the Florida State Seminoles and the Miami Hurricanes; and

WHEREAS, UCF cracked the BCS Standings for the first time in program history and is currently ranked #24 in the nation in the Coaches' Top 25 Poll; and

WHEREAS, the Knights will return many talented athletes next season placing the team in a strong position to build on this historic season;

NOW, THEREFORE, Be It Resolved by the Orange County Board of County Commissioners that the UCF Football Knights are hereby commended and celebrated for their outstanding season.

DONE AND ORDERED this 11th day of January, 2011.
