ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - Ranked 22nd in the latest ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll and 23rd in the Associated Press Top 25, the UCF men's basketball team is also towards the top of another important list. The Knights, who are 14-1 on the year under new head coach Donnie Jones, are 17th in the official NCAA RPI report.
The RPI ranks teams based on several factors, including winning percentage, strength of schedule and road and neutral site victories. The formula is used to help in selecting and seeding teams for the NCAA Tournament.
UCF has faced, and defeated, four squads that are listed in the top 50: Florida (14), Miami (33), Princeton (45) and Marshall (46).
Six Conference USA teams are ranked in the top 100 of the RPI, including the Knights.
The Knights will return to action Saturday at Southern Miss. The Golden Eagles are 79th in the RPI.
