MIAMI, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - For the first time this season, two members of the UCF women's basketball team scored 20 points in the same game as seniors D'Nay Daniels (Atlanta, Ga.) and Chelsie Wiley (Riviera Beach, Fla.) each reached the mark Sunday afternoon in a 74-65 win at FIU's U.S. Century Bank Arena.
Daniels finished with a UCF (4-3) season-high 25 points, matching her career high set last February at Memphis. Her nine boards were also a game-high, while adding two assists, a block and two steals in the win.
Wiley matched her season-high of 22 points for the Knights in the game.
The nine-point victory snapped a 24-game losing streak to FIU (4-4) for UCF, dating back to the spring of 1985.
Wiley scored eight of her 15 first-half points in the opening four minutes of play, finishing the half 6-of-9 from the floor, including three from beyond the arc. Not to be outdone, Daniels was 7-of-9 from the field for 14 points in the first 20 minutes of play.
The Knights led at the half, 43-40. The 43 points were the most in any half this season for UCF.
Junior Aisha Patrick (Rockledge, Fla.) had just two points and two rebounds at the break, but came out motivated in the second half. Patrick finished with six points, but had team highs five assists and four steals, while also pulling down seven boards, second only to Daniels' nine.
After two quick baskets to start the second half, Wiley matched her season high of 22 points on a three-pointer with 14:20 remaining, her fourth trifecta of the game.
Freshman Erika Jones (Phenix City, Ala.) came off the bench to add eight points on 4-of-5 shooting.
For the game, the Knights outrebounded the Panthers, 41-27. The 27 boards by FIU were the fewest by any opponent this season, while the rebounding margin of 14 was the most in 2010-11.
The Knights now return to the UCF Arena for a meeting with Middle Tennessee State on Tuesday at noon. The game marks Elementary Day and will feature several local school groups in the crowd.
