ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - UCF women's basketball senior Jelisa Caldwell (Macon, Ga.) was named the Conference USA Player of the Week Thursday. The accolade was the first of Caldwell's career and came after the fourth-year guard averaged 25.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.5 steals per game this week.
Caldwell's huge week began on Monday when she became the sixth C-USA player this season to reach the 30-point mark. Her 30 points against Jacksonville were a new career high and helped lift the Knights to a 33-point win, 92-59, as she was 12-of-19 shooting from the floor in the game. The 30-point effort was the first by a UCF player in two seasons.
Just two days later in Dayton, Ohio, against Wright State, Caldwell continued her stellar play. Scoring a team-high 21 points against the Raiders, Caldwell had the two best scoring outputs of her career in consecutive games. Her point total also benefited from a career-high five three-pointers in the contest.
Caldwell became the first time member of the Knights to score 20 or more points in back-to-back games since the end of the 2008-09 season for her efforts against the Dolphins and Raiders. It was also the first time Caldwell had scored in double digits in consecutive games since her freshman season.
The Knights will next host Tennessee Tech on Wednesday, Dec. 29 at 4:30 p.m. at the UCF Arena. Tickets are available by calling (407) UCF-1000.
