ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - With his team off to a 10-0 start, junior A.J. Rompza (Chicago, Ill.) of the 24th-ranked UCF men's basketball team has been announced as one of 66 candidates for the 2011 Bob Cousy Award. The annual award, which is administered by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, is named for Hall of Famer and former Boston Celtic Bob Cousy, and recognizes college basketball's top point guard.

Rompza is a big reason that the Knights are off to an undefeated start and ranked for the first time in program history. He is averaging 7.1 points and 4.4 assists. Rompza ranks second in C-USA and 15th nationally in assist-turnover ratio at 3.14. The Chicago native has dished out 44 assists with only 14 turnovers.

The original list of Bob Cousy Award candidates will be narrowed down to a final 20 by Jan. 3, a final 10 by Feb. 3 and a final five by March 3. The winner will be announced on April 4 at the Final Four in Houston.

Previous winners of the award include Jameer Nelson (Saint Joseph's), Raymond Felton (North Carolina) and Ty Lawson (North Carolina).
