ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - Just when you thought it couldn't get any better for the UCF men's soccer team, another accolade is announced. Junior Warren Creavalle (Acworth, Ga.) earned the distinction as the first UCF player to be honored as an All-American since Heikki Ritvanen in 1997. Creavalle was honored with a spot on the third team when the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) announced its All-American teams Monday.
"As a program, we are very excited for Warren to be named an All-American," head coach Bryan Cunningham said. "It's a tremendous honor and privilege to be recognized at this level. Warren works extremely hard in practice and his future is very bright."
Last week, Creavalle also joined Ritvanen as the only two players in program history to be named to the NSCAA/Performance Subaru All-South Region First Team for his play in 2010.
Junior Kevan George (Roxborough, Trinidad) and sophomore Nik Robson (Auckland, New Zealand) joined Creavalle when they both earned All-South Region Third Team honors, marking the first time that UCF has had three players selected by the NSCAA for its regional team.
Creavalle is just one of two players from Conference USA to be named to the NSCAA All-American Teams. Joining Creavalle from C-USA is SMU's Arthur Ivo, who was named to the second team.
UCF's junior midfielder finished the season with four goals and four assists for eight points, putting himself on a list as one of the best at his position in the country. In all, he was honored as the first-ever UCF player named an All-American and the first named to the NSCAA All-South Region First Team, to go along with his spot on the All-Conference USA First Team.
Creavalle and Ritvanen are the only two players in UCF history to be named All-Americans at the Division I level, but three players also earned the distinction while at the Division II level. Winston DuBose (1974-76), Rick Bratincevic 1981-83) and Rony Francois (1982) all previously were All-Americans before UCF moved up a division in 1984.
