ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - Caryl Smith Gilbert's 2010 Track Academy will take place at the UCF Track & Field Complex on Dec. 18. The Knights head coach and her staff will be on hand for the all-day event that is open to both boys and girls, ages 5-18.
Camp will begin at 8 a.m. and will run to 4:30 p.m. The cost of the all-day camp is just $69 and includes a UCF Track & Field shirt for all participants.
Smith Gilbert will be joined by assistant coaches Jeff Chakouian and Paul Brown. Chakouian works closely with the UCF throwers, while Brown spent the fall overseeing the Knights cross country team. Smith, a former U.S. Track Coaches Association National and Mideast Region Assistant Coach of the Year for sprints and hurdles, has spent the better part of the last decade working with some of the nation's premier sprinters at both Tennessee and UCF.
Taking over the UCF track & field team four years ago, Smith Gilbert has turned the program into a national power; winning the 2010 Conference USA Championship and helping several athletes garner All-American honors in her time as head coach.
"This camp is going to be exciting for the UCF track & field community," Smith Gilbert said. "It is going to be great to tap into all of the event areas and get acquainted with the kids who come. I'm really looking forward to working with all the kids, helping them develop into better athletes with a greater understanding of what it takes to be successful in this sport."
