ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - Off to an impressive 7-0 start under new head coach Donnie Jones, the UCF men's basketball team learned Monday that the Knights are receiving votes in both national polls. UCF is garnering 28 votes in the Associated Press Top 25 Poll, and four votes in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll.

UCF won a pair of contests last week, including a 57-54 victory over 16th-ranked Florida at the new Amway Center in downtown Orlando. In addition to defeating an SEC program this year, the Knights have also toppled a BIG EAST team (USF).

"Anytime you have success and win, it is going to give credibility to your program. It has been great for us to get some national exposure with the win over Florida. Now we have to continue to focus on the things that we need to do to continue to get better," Jones said.

The Knights are receiving votes in national polls for the third time in program history, and for the first time since Dec. 11, 2006, when UCF garnered three votes in the AP Top 25.

UCF is off to its best start since 1979-80. The Knights are beating opponents by an average of 27.4 points and feature an offense that is averaging 80.0 points per game on 52.5 percent shooting. On the other end, UCF is holding foes to only 52.6 points per game on 34.3 percent shooting.

The Knights are slated to return to action Saturday, hosting Bethune-Cookman at 5 p.m. at the UCF Arena. Season ticket and mini-plan packages are available by calling (407) UCF-1000 or by visiting UCFAthletics.com.
