When UCF (7-2, 5-0) has the ball:

The Knights held on to win a pivotal game at Houston after defeating the Cougars 40-33 Nov. 5, giving UCF its first ever national ranking. Freshman phenom Jeff Godfrey, had his most spectacular game of the season and proved to be the difference in the match-up after completing 15-of-19 passing for a career high 294 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions. Godfrey hooked up with one of his favorite targets on the night, senior Jamar Newsome, for a team-high five receptions and 123 yards, but it was A.J. Guyton (44 yards) and Ricky Kay (11 yards) who found the back of the endzone. UCF dominated the Cougars on the ground after accumulating 228 rushing yards and 522 total yards of offense. Godfrey, who accounted for 399 yards of the Knights' offense alone, rushed 20 times for 105 yards and a score, while back-up tailback Latavius Murray also carved up the Cougar defense for 78 yards and a touchdown off of 11 carries. UCF is rolling up an average of 203 rushing yards a game on their opponents, which ranks 21st in the nation. The Knights will face a Southern Miss defense that is giving up an average of 319.7 total yards of offense a game, including only 107 yards on the ground a game. The Golden Eagles finished off Tulane last week after DT Cordarro Law hit Green Wave quarterback Ryan Griffin, who fumbled the ball out of the end zone for a safety with 2:23 remaining, putting Southern Miss ahead 39-30.

When Southern Miss (6-3, 3-2) has the ball:

Southern Miss is the third-consecutive pass-happy offense UCF will face in three weeks. The Golden Eagles are putting up 34.6 points a contest, and are averaging 431 total yards of offense a game, with 236 yards coming through the air. Junior QB Austin Davis struggled last week against the Green Wave after only completing 18-of-35 passes for 102 yards and a touchdown. With a struggling passing game, USM was able to rip Tulane for 230 yards and two scores on the ground. Freshman tailback Kendrick Hardy is averaging seven yards a carry, and is steadily coming on for the Eagles after rushing for 311 yards and four touchdowns in his last three performances. Southern Miss will face a Knights' defense that has given up an average of 476.5 total yards of offense in its last two tilts, with 322 yards coming via pass. Even though the Knights' defense has given up a lot of yards against two air-it-out attacks, they have been able to get stops and force turnovers, including a key interception by senior DE Bruce Miller at Houston. Miller dropped back into coverage where he was there to pick off Cougar QB David Piland, and rumble towards the endzone, bowling over would-be tacklers for a 15-yard touchdown in the first quarter.
