ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - Prior to the 2010-11 UCF women's basketball team regular-season opener on Saturday, Nov. 13 at Florida in the Preseason Women's National Invitation Tournament, the Knights will host Flagler College in an exhibition game Sunday at 3 p.m. at the UCF Arena. Admission is free for all fans.
This year's Knights will have a much different look for head coach Joi Williams and her staff. Unlike previous seasons, UCF will have an abundance of senior leadership with five members of the team playing their final season with the Knights.
Chelsie Wiley (Riviera Beach, Fla.), Leah Paige (Atlanta, Ga.), Angelica Mealing (Decatur, Ga.), Jelisa Caldwell (Macon, Ga.) and D'Nay Daniels (Atlanta, Ga.) all are in their last season with UCF and will look to compete for the second Conference USA crown of their careers.
Ashia Kelly (Longview, Texas) and Aisha Patrick (Rockledge, Fla.) join Daniels, Wiley and Mealing as the Knights return all five starters from a year ago. UCF ended the season with six wins in the final nine regular-season games to secure the No. 8 seed in the conference tournament. The Knights would go on to defeat Marshall in overtime, 59-57, in the first round before falling to eventual champion Tulane, 63-62, in the quarterfinals.
Flagler will also be playing in its first exhibition game of the season Sunday afternoon. The Saints were picked to finish 12th in the Preseason Peach Belt Conference Coaches' Poll after posting an 8-19 overall mark and a 3-15 conference record in 2009-10. Flagler returns just one starter from a season ago, senior Adrienne Donelson. Donelson averaged 7.3 points 5.3 rebounds per game as a junior.
The Knights will start the season with games in the Preseason WNIT before returning to Orlando for its first home game at the UCF Arena on Friday, Nov. 26 against Richmond in the UCF Thanksgiving Classic. UCF will take on Western Kentucky the following day with both games slated for 2:30 p.m. start times. Season and single-game tickets are on sale now.
A video broadcast of the game against the Saints as well as live stats will be available on UCFAthletics.com.
Season tickets start at just $39. Fans can purchase tickets online or by calling (407) UCF-1000.
