ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - After a sensational month of October, UCF freshman Matthew Gladstone (Surfside, Fla.) was named the Conference USA Men's Athlete of the Month. The rookie had a perfect month, going 7-0 in singles and earning two tournament titles.
In doubles action, he was 6-0 during the month and also won a pair of tournament championships. Most recently, Gladstone claimed the Black Draw title at the UCF Invitational. The freshman went 3-0 at the tournament, and topped Florida Atlantic's Oliver Webb, 4-6, 6-2, 6-1, in the championship match. Along with Mario Samson, Gladstone went 3-0 in doubles at the event. The pair won the Black Draw title with a 9-7 victory over UCF teammates Erik Brunskog and Matthew Zachary.
Gladstone started the impressive month at the C.L. Varner Memorial Invitational in nearby Winter Park. He went 4-0 in singles action to claim the Flight B Singles Blue Draw championship. In doubles, he joined Leonel Vivas to go 3-0 and claim the Flight B Gold championship. Gladstone earns his first conference honor of his career.
