ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - UCF junior tailback Ronnie Weaver (Wabasso, Fla.) was named the Conference USA Co-Offensive Player of the Week on Monday for his efforts in UCF's 49-35 win over East Carolina on Saturday that left UCF as the league's last remaining undefeated team and in control of the conference championship race.
Weaver is just the third Knight to ever earn the league's weekly honor on offense, joining Mike Sims-Walker (Oct. 31, 2005) and Kevin Smith (four times in 2007). UCF has claimed the prize three times this year on the defensive side of the ball with Darius Nall receiving it twice and Kemal Ishmael once.
Originally joining UCF as a walk-on, Weaver ran for 180 yards on 30 carries with two touchdowns in the Knights' win. Weaver's career-high rushing total marked his third 100-yard rushing game in UCF's last five outings in he has now rushed for a total of 10 touchdowns in the six games since he took over as the team's top tailback. In four C-USA games, Weaver is averaging 108.25 yards per game with seven touchdowns.
Weaver was also named the Conference USA Player of the Week by Rivals.com on Sunday night for his efforts in UCF's monumental win, its first over the Pirates since 2005.
The Knights have another national showcase game on Friday night as UCF (6-2, 4-0 C-USA) travels to Houston (5-3, 4-1 C-USA) in a matchup of two of the league's premier teams. Kickoff is set for 8 p.m. ET with ESPN2 broadcasting the game live nationally.
