WINTER PARK, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - Playing close to campus, freshman Matthew Gladstone (Surfside, Fla.) of the UCF men's tennis team had a great day on the courts Saturday at the C.L. Varner Memorial Invitational. Gladstone won two matches to advance to the championship of the Flight B "Blue" Draw.

In the semifinals, Gladstone handled John Cappabianca of Lander, 6-2, 7-5. He started the day with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Pitt von Oertzen of Jacksonville in the quarterfinals. Gladstone will meet Simon Raagard of Barry in Sunday's final.

Two other Knights picked up singles wins Saturday, both in the Flight B Consolation Draw. Junior Eugene Dolgovykh (Palm Coast, Fla.) won two matches, and freshman Erik Brunskog (Linkoping, Sweden) won one contest.

The event began Friday and will conclude Sunday. Rollins is hosting the tournament.

In doubles play, Gladstone joined fellow freshman Leonel Vivas (Caracas, Venezuela) for an 8-2 second round triumph over Alex Minnicozzi and Jonathan Kalis of Palm Beach Atlantic.
