ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - From guards to post players, it seems like every single Knight possesses skills that are needed to be successful in new head coach Donnie Jones' up-tempo system. P.J. Gaynor is no different.
The junior forward from Jacksonville is a gifted offensive player who can knock down shots from outside the paint. The lanky Gaynor had to often play down low during his first two years with the Knights, but that should change. With the arrival of talented posts players Tom Herzog and Dwight McCombs, Gaynor should shift more to the small forward spot.
"It is going to help the team a lot," Gaynor said of the new-found depth up front. "We've got a lot of people working hard. Playing against each other (in practice) only makes it better."
In 2009-10, Gaynor played in all 32 games for the Knights and averaged 4.9 points and 3.5 rebounds.
Since the Knights officially began practices on Oct. 15, Gaynor has been impressed with not only how his teammates have adapted to Jones' style of play, but also with the squad's attitude each day.
"Everyone stays positive," he said. "Everyone picks each other up during practice. We are like a family."
UCF will begin the 2010-11 regular season on Nov. 12, hosting West Florida at the UCF Arena. Season tickets, which start at just $96 and include a free Knightmare t-shirt, are currently available by calling (407) UCF-1000 or by visiting UCFAthletics.com.
