ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - Community heroes will be all around and above Saturday's UCF Homecoming football game against Rice and UCF Athletics is also asking its fans and supporters to us fill the stands with local community heroes too by purchasing or donating tickets. Approximately 1,000 tickets have already been donated to the airmen at Patrick Air Force Base, as well as Central Florida region firemen, EMTs, police officers and retired military veterans.
As part of the military salute, the 14th Flying Training Wing of Columbus Air Force Base will be providing two T-38's for the pregame flyover to take place at the end of the national anthem.
Another exciting reason to be in your seats early this Saturday will be the drop-in performance by the Wings of Blue. Averaging about 50 performances each year, the Wings of Blue is the parachuting unit at the United States Air Force Academy, near Colorado Springs, Colorado. Over the last several decades, the Wings of Blue has been one of the outstanding parachute units in the United States. The Wings of Blue will be donning a UCF flag as they drop into Bright House Networks Stadium and present the game ball during the pregame show.
Additionally, local residents, Phil and Maureen Miller will be honored during the game in recognition of their son, Staff Sergeant Robert Miller, who was recently awarded the Medal of Honor posthumously. Miller was a young Army Green Beret who saved his patrol by holding off a Taliban ambush in a snowy Afghan valley two winters ago. For more information on Robert Miller's Medal of Honor, please read this White House press release: http://www.whitehouse.gov/the-press-office/2010/10/06/remarks-president-awarding-medal-honor-staff-sergeant-robert-miller.
UCF Athletics would like to encourage all fans to continue the success of our community heroes campaign by purchasing and donating reduced price tickets for our community heroes at just $20. To purchase tickets contact the Athletics Ticket Office at 407-UCF-1000 or by logging on to UCFAthletics.com.
