ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - Donnie Jones is heading to the Big Apple this week. On Wednesday, the new UCF men's basketball head coach will be in New York City, participating in a two-hour Conference USA preview show at the CBS College Sports Network studios, followed by a media opportunity later in the day with several New York and national media outlets.
Jones, who is in his first year at UCF, is certainly familiar with C-USA, having spent the previous three campaigns at league program Marshall. He is one of 12 C-USA head coaches who will spend time in New York City this week.
The C-USA preview show, which will be hosted by Dave Ryan and Pete Gillen, will debut on CBS College Sports on Nov. 1.
Media members from outlets including ESPN, ESPN The Magazine, CBS College Sports, the New York Times, the Associated Press and the New York Post will meet with the conference's head coaches following the taping.
The trip to New York City is part of an effort by C-USA to gain more exposure on the national level for the league. C-USA teams received seven postseason berths in 2010, with regular-season champion UTEP and tournament champ Houston both earning bids to the NCAA Tournament. Six league teams recorded 20 or more wins in 2009-10.
Jones' Knights are slated to open the 2010-11 regular season on Nov. 12 at home against West Florida. UCF will play 17 total games at the UCF Arena this year. Season tickets, which start at just $96 and include a free Knightmare t-shirt, are currently available by calling (407) UCF-1000 or by visiting UCFAthletics.com.
