ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - After a spirited workout session inside the UCF Practice Facility Thursday morning, members of the UCF men's basketball team listened intently as legendary college basketball coach Don Meyer addressed the team. Meyer is the all-time wins leader among NCAA men's head coaches across all divisions.

Meyer, who retired as the head coach at Northern State in South Dakota at the conclusion of last season, spoke to the Knights for around 15 minutes. Meyer watched UCF's practice and then was introduced to the team by head coach Donnie Jones.

He talked to the Knights about the value of hard work, and also gave tips on how to develop into a disciplined shooter.

Meyer had a speaking engagement Wednesday at the Metro Church in Winter Springs, and is scheduled to appear at the Nike Championship Basketball Coaches Clinic Friday on the UCF campus. UCF women's basketball associate head coach Greg Brown, who served as a student assistant under Meyer at Lipscomb, and later worked as the director of Meyer's basketball camps, accompanied Meyer at UCF's practice Thursday.

Over the last two years, Meyer broke the career wins record by a men's head coach (passing Bobby Knight), had a near fatal car accident which resulted in the loss of one of his legs to amputation and was diagnosed with inoperable cancer.

In 2009, he received The Jimmy V ESPY Award for courage. He was most recently honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame.
