ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - UCF women's basketball associate head coach Greg Brown will be a guest on the FOX 35 Morning News program Thursday at 8 a.m. Brown will appear alongside legendary basketball coach Don Meyer.
Meyer is the all-time wins leaders among NCAA men's head coaches across all divisions and is in the Orlando area for a speaking engagement Wednesday night at the Metro Church in Winter Springs.
"I had the opportunity to serve and work with Coach Meyer at Lipscomb University as both a student-assistant and later as a director of his basketball camps," Brown said. "Outside of my parents he is the most influential person in my life and my career. "
Over the last two years Coach Meyer has broken the career wins record by a men's head coach (passing Bobby Knight), had a near fatal car accident which resulted in the loss of one of his legs to amputation and is currently battling an inoperable cancer.
In 2009, Meyer received The Jimmy V ESPY Award for courage. He was most recently honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame. In November, a book written by ESPN's Buster Olney will be published about Meyer and his life.
Coach Meyer also spoke yesterday on Jerry Greene and Marc Daniels AM 1080's The Beat of Sports to promote his appearance at Metro Church.
Admission to Wednesday evening's event is free, but registration is required. The event begins at 6 p.m. with a presentation by Meyer's wife Carmen before Coach Meyer begins at 7 p.m. For more information regarding this event, please go to www.metrocc.org or call 407-366-7714.
