ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - Former UCF men's golfer Devin Spies is faring well as he embarks on a professional career. Spies recently claimed a title on the West Florida Golf Tour.

Playing in his hometown of Sarasota, Spies, who played at UCF from 2008-10, claimed the championship at the Bent Tree Classic at the Bent Tree Country Club in a dramatic five-hole playoff with Sam Osborne. Both players finished the event at 66 (-6), but Spies took the title in the playoff.

Bent Tree served as the fifth event for Spies since he turned professional in late August. In addition to participating in events on the West Florida Golf Tour, Spies plans on competing on the Hooters Tour Winter Series, starting in November.

As a senior for the Knights in 2009-10, Spies appeared in five events, including the NCAA Regionals in Santee, Calif., where he tied for 14th overall. He was a member of two squads that advanced to the postseason during his time in Orlando.
