ATHENS, Ga. (UCFAthletics.com) - Four members of the UCF men's tennis team were in action Friday when play began at the Southern Intercollegiates at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex. The highlight of the day for the Knights came in the top doubles bracket, where senior Blaze Schwartz (Pensacola, Fla.) and junior Joe Delinks (Falmouth, Mass.) advanced to the quarterfinals.
The pair topped Guillermo Gomez and Dean O'Brien of Georgia Tech, 8-6, in the round of the 32. They opened the event by breezing past Tinus Van Wyk and Stuart Robinson of Wofford, 8-2. The two Knights will meet Christian Blocker and Keith Crowley of Miami Saturday.
Players from 34 different schools are competing at the tournament. The event will run through Monday on the Georgia campus.
In the top singles bracket, junior Claudio Romano (Valencia, Venezuela) topped Alex Das of Eastern Kentucky (7-5, 6-0) in the opening round. Romano will play Sergey Belov of Winthrop in the round of 32.
The event is the second of the fall for the Knights. UCF began the campaign last weekend, participating in the Gator Invitational in Gainesville.
