ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - Four members of the UCF men's tennis squad will be in action when play begins at the Southern Intercollegiates in Athens, Ga., Friday. One of the top tournaments in the country, the event will run through Monday.
Senior Blaze Schwartz (Pensacola, Fla.), juniors Joe Delinks (Falmouth, Mass.) and Claudio Romano (Valencia, Venezuela) and sophomore Mario Samson (Miami, Fla.) will represent the Knights at the tournament.
The event features participants from 37 schools, including Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Georgia Tech, LSU, Miami, South Alabama and Vanderbilt. The field will be divided into three singles divisions and two doubles divisions.
The Southern Intercollegiates is in its 43rd year, and is the oldest fall college tennis tournament in the nation.
The Knights began their fall campaign last weekend at the Gator Invitational in Gainesville. Delinks and Schwartz shined in doubles play, as the pair went 2-1. The duo is ranked 52nd in the country in doubles.
Romano only played one singles match in Gainesville, picking up a 7-5, 6-4 victory over USF's Wael Kilani. Kilani is ranked 53rd nationally.
