Quotes from the Weekend

Head coach Todd Dagenais on the weekend...
"This was such a hard weekend for us to deal with and understand, because as the game scores showed we had opportunities to win every set that we lost. And that is something that is weighing very heavily on the players' minds. I think that it is important that when you struggle you don't get lost in how you feel. You need to go back to the basics, back to your process and try to rebuild the things that are hurting you piece-by-piece. And that is exactly what we are going to do."

Head coach Todd Dagenais on bouncing back...
"The good thing is that against some very good teams we put ourselves in position to win almost every single set. We made some crucial errors at some very inopportune times. But, it comes with more experience, more game play and it comes with more quality training opportunities that we will break through."

ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - The UCF volleyball team is looking to get back to its early-season form this weekend when it opens Conference USA play at Marshall. The team hit a speed bump in its road to the league-portion of its schedule last weekend at the Chattanooga Classic, but is optimistic that, with a few tweaks, it will be successful in the second-half of the year.

In C-USA Openers
The Knights enter their two-match showdown with the Thundering Herd with a 3-2 record all-time in C-USA openers, which includes back-to-back league-opening wins in 2005-06. UCF trails Marshall in the all-time series, 2-10, with its only win since joining C-USA coming during the 2008 season.

It's a Wrap
The Black and Gold concluded its non-conference schedule last weekend at the Chattanooga Classic. UCF finished non-league play with a 7-5 record, which included seven-consecutive wins to open the season. During non-conference action, the Knights posted wins against teams such as Florida Gulf Coast, UNC Wilmington, UNC Greensboro and Florida Atlantic.

All Things Must Come to an End
A new conference volleyball format for scheduling begins in 2010. With the elimination of the C-USA Championship, league teams will now play 20 conference matches instead of 16. The regular-season champion will earn the automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

Among League Leaders
Following play in the Chattanooga Classic last weekend, the Black and Gold has seven different players that rank C-USA's top-10 and three additional that rank in the top-20. Junior Sara Rex is tied for first place in league-standings with a .366 attack percentage, while redshirt freshman Nichole Riedel holds down the No. 6 spot with a .338 attack percentage and sophomore Tory McCutcheon rounds out the top-10 with a .308 attack percentage.

Junior Kristin Fisher ranks third in C-USA in both kills (4.54/set) and points (5.02/set) and sophomore Evija Vilde (Riga, Latvia) sits at No. 16 in kills (2.75/set) and is tied for the No. 15 spot in points (3.27/set). Vilde also ranks ninth on the register in service aces (0.32/set).

Setter Rachel Vukson also cracks the top-15 with a 0.28 aces-per-set average, while also ranking fifth among the conference's best in assists (9.97/set).

Defensively, libero Meredith Murphy holds the No. 7 position after averaging 4.23 digs per set and fellow sophomore Danni Harrison sits at No. 18 with a 2.70 digs-per-set average.

On the National Scene
This week, outside hitter Kristin Fisher moved up three spots to No. 10 nationally with her 4.54 kills-per-set average, while also ranking No. 16 among her NCAA Division I competition with an average of 5.02 points per set. Rachel Vukson also ranks in the top-100, coming in at No. 82 in assists with a 9.97 assists-per-set average. As a team, the Knights are 49th in NCAA Division I in assists per set and are also 62nd in kills per set.

Fisher on a Double-Digit Streak
Kristin Fisher enters C-USA action this weekend having totaled 10 or more kills in 19-consecutive contests dating back to Oct. 23, 2009 vs. East Carolina. At the Chattanooga Classic, Fisher posted 54 kills (4.50/set), which included a career-best 25 kills vs. host Chattanooga Saturday afternoon.
