MIDDLETOWN, R.I. (UCFAthletics.com) - The UCF men's golf team got off to a sensational start at the Adams Cup of Newport Monday as the Knights lead the 17-team field after two rounds of play at the Newport National Golf Club. Entering Tuesday's final round, three Knights are in the top-10 individually, and UCF has a nine-stroke advantage over second-place West Florida.

Head coach Bryce Wallor's squad posted a two-round total of 5-over 581. The Knights are led by freshman Greg Eason (Leicestershire, England). The rookie carded a 2-under 69 in the second round, and sits in first at 143 (-1). Eason is competing in his second collegiate event.

After opening the tournament with a 77 (+5), sophomore Reid Martin (Mukilteo, Wash.) registered a 2-under 70 to conclude the day tied for sixth (147, +3). Junior Nuno Henriques (Funchal, Portugal), who like Martin, is making his 2010-11 debut in Rhode Island, is tied for eighth at 148 (+4).

The event in Rhode Island is the second of the fall for the Knights. Last week, UCF tied for second at its season-opening event, the Wolf Run Intercollegiate in Indiana. Junior Connor Arendell (Cape Coral, Fla.) took medalist honors at the tournament.

Arendell is tied for 13th at 149 (+5) in the Ocean State. Junior Brad Schneider (Valrico, Fla.) was one of just two golfers in the 88 player field to go under par in the opening round. He posted a 1-under 71. Schneider enters the final round tied for 24th at 152 (+8).

Central Connecticut State is third in the team standings at 22-over 598.

UCF also competed at the Adams Cup last year. Wallor's squad placed seventh. Wallor is a Rhode Island native who was a student-athlete at tournament host Rhode Island.
