ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - The I-4 rivalry with South Florida will be renewed Friday when the UCF women's soccer team travels to Tampa for a 7 p.m. showdown. The Knights will then return home to host Virginia Commonwealth Sunday at 1 p.m. with fans receiving free admission to the UCF Soccer Complex.
UCF stands at 1-1-0 on the year with a victory over San Diego State and a loss to No. 11 Florida. Friday's match marks the Black and Gold's first road tilt of 2010.
In that win against the Aztecs, Katie Jackson and Stacie Hubbard both netted goals, while the Knights defense did not allow a shot on goal.
South Florida owns a 3-0-0 record with win vs. North Florida, Murray State and Southeast Missouri State. The Bulls have outscored opponents 12-2, while keeper Nicole McClure has one shutout with four saves.
Virginia Commonwealth carries a 1-1-1 mark and will play Stetson Friday before heading to Orlando. Already with a win over Longwood, a tie against St. John's and a 2-1 loss to Villanova, the Rams have tallied three goals from three different payers this year. Megan Lynch serves as the starting keeper, and has a 0.93 goals-against average with 11 saves.
UCF is 4-1-0 in the all-time series with South Florida, including a 1-0 triumph in Orlando last season. It did venture over to Tampa in 2009 for the USF Tournament where the Knights tied LSU, 0-0, and defeated FIU, 5-0. Meanwhile Sunday's game against VCU will be the first meeting between the two programs.
