GAINESVILLE, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - On Saturday, the UCF men's tennis squad continued play at its first event of fall, the Gator Invitational. The Knights will conclude the tournament at the Ring Tennis Complex Sunday.
UCF players faced Florida team members Saturday, and two Knights squared off against nationally-ranked foes. Senior Blaze Schwartz (Pensacola, Fla.) battled Alexandre Lacroix, the ninth-ranked player in the country. Lacroix posted a 6-2, 6-2 win. Sophomore Mario Samson (Miami, Fla.) faced Bob Van Overbeek, the 105th-ranked player, and fell 6-0, 6-0.
UCF began the three-day event Friday. Florida Atlantic, USF and North Florida are also competing in Gainesville.
In doubles, Schwartz and junior Joe Delinks (Falmouth, Mass.) battled hard, but fell 8-6 to Van Overbeek and Billy Federhofer.
