IRVING, Texas (UCFAthletics.com) - After claiming medalist honors at UCF's season-opening event this past weekend, junior Connor Arendell (Cape Coral, Fla.) was named the Conference USA Men's Golfer of the Week Wednesday. Arendell won the title at the Wolf Run Intercollegiate in Zionsville, Ind., Sunday, picking up his first career collegiate victory.

Arendell led the Knights to a second-place tie at the event. He concluded the three-round tournament at 5-under 208. He shot under par in all three rounds of the tournament. He began the tournament with a pair of 2-under 69s and then carded a 70 (-1) on the final 18.

Arendell became the first Knight since April 2009 to win an event championship. He finished Wolf Run four shots ahead of Ball State's Eric Steger, who placed second.

The two-day tournament featured 15 squads, including Illinois, North Florida and Michigan, who are all listed in Golfweek's top-30 preseason rankings.

The C-USA Golfer of the Week honor is the first for Arendell since transferring to UCF from Louisville prior to the 2009-10 season. He shared the honor with Derek Plucienski of Southern Miss.
