HANAHAN, S.C. (UCFAthletics.com) - Sophomore Carolin Pinegger (Marquartstein, Germany) and freshman Kaitlyn Price (Jacksonville Beach, Fla.) each shot a 73 to lead the UCF women's golf team in the final round of the Cougar Classic hosted by the College of Charleston at Yeamans Hall in Hanahan, S.C.
The Knights shot a 303 on the day as a team, slipping into a tie with Maryland for 11th place in the final standings for the 21-team event. North Carolina ran away with the title. The Tar Heels' 860 gave them an eight-stroke cushion over second place Ole Miss and a 12-stroke margin over third place Oklahoma.
Pinegger was one of UCF's most consistent shooters on the week, ranging between a 73 and a 77 for all three rounds and ending up with a team-low score of 224 (+8). Price's 73 lifted her up to a tie for second amongst the Knights, matching senior Katie Detlefsen (Eagan, Minn.). Price and Detlefsen each finished the tournament with a 226 (+10).
Sophomore Sunny Harris (Pensacola, Fla.) was UCF's fourth finisher with a final-round 79 for a 54-hole total of 231 (+15). Sophomore Valentina Fontaine (Santiago, Chile) shot a 78 on Tuesday, her best round of the three at the event by three strokes, and finished with a 244 (+28).
The Knights will have a few weeks off now before returning to action on Oct. 4 at the Windy City Classic in Highland Park, Ill.
