ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - On Saturday, head coach Bobby Cashman and the UCF men's tennis program teamed with the United States Tennis Association and the Intercollegiate Tennis Association to host an ITA Campus Showdown. The one-day, short-format tournament was open to juniors, college players and adults.
UCF junior Claudio Romano defeated his teammate, sophomore Mario Samson, 5-0 to win the singles championship. In doubles action, freshmen Leonel Vivas and Matthew Zachary topped Romano and Samson, 11-9, to take the title.
This year's event featured 16 players, including seven members of the UCF squad.
The Knights will open up their 2010 fall season next Friday at the Gator Invitational in Gainesville.
