ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - Over 30 members of the media were on hand Friday afternoon at Bright House Networks Stadium to meet the 2010 Knights during UCF's annual media day. The Knights wore their new NIKE uniforms publicly for the first time as team members were dressed in gold jerseys and white pants.
Head coach George O'Leary, who is in his seventh year leading the Knights, began the event with a 40-minute press conference inside the Steve and Brenda Sloan Media Room.
After the press conference, the Knights took a team photo and then met with representatives from the television stations, radio outlets, newspapers and web sites who were on hand Friday. The large group included reporters from the Miami Herald, Lakeland Ledger and ESPN.com, as well as members of the local Orlando media.
Team members also took still and video head shots during the event.
UCF began preseason camp Thursday afternoon. Due to media day the squad moved its Friday practice to the morning. Per NCAA preseason camp regulations, today's session was conducted in just helmets with no padding. The Knights will be able to don shoulder pads for the first time this fall on Saturday when they hold their next open practice at 3 p.m. It is hard to assess performances, from linemen in particular, with no contact but one play that stood out to all was a long acrobatic touchdown catch that redshirt freshman Marquee Williams made in the corner of the end zone off of a L.D. Crow pass with a foot clearly landing in bounds.
