ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - After guiding the UCF volleyball team to the Florida Gulf Coast Tournament title last weekend, junior Kristin Fisher has been named the Bright House Student-Athlete of the Week.

Fisher hit .316 over the weekend, while averaging 5.0 kills per set, 5.39 points per set and 2.11 digs per set during the event.

The outside hitter showed no signs of rust in the season-opener, putting together an impressive performance against Houston Baptist where she posted a double-double with 12 kills and 14 digs.

Fisher only seemed to get better as the tournament progressed. Against Florida Gulf Coast, Fisher had 17 kills and two blocks solos. She then hit a season-high .387 in the tournament finale vs. Bethune-Cookman with a match-high 16 kills and a block assist.

Her impressive play throughout the tournament did not go unnoticed, as Fisher was named to Florida Gulf Coast All-Tournament Team and was considered the class of the tournament after leading all players in kills in every match of the tournament.

Fisher has posted double-digit kills numbers in 11-straight contests dating back to Oct. 23, 2009.

"Kristin was outstanding the entire weekend both as a player and as a leader," head coach Todd Dagenais said. "Her leadership allows us to be competitive in any game against any team."

The Knights will look to build off of its success they had this weekend, as they continue one of their two six-match road stretches in Wilmington, N.C., at the UNC Wilmington Hilton Garden Inn/Courtyard by Marriott Classic next weekend. During the tournament, the Knights will face the host Seahawks, UNC Greensboro and South Carolina State.
