ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - Junior Connor Arendell (Cape Coral, Fla.) of the UCF men's golf team had a strong showing in stroke play at the U.S. Amateur Championship in Washington to advance to match play at the event at the Chambers Bay Home Course. Arendell placed 13th at 144 (+2) after two days of stroke play.
He carded a 71 (E) during Tuesday's second round. The first round of match play will be held Wednesday, with the second and third rounds scheduled for Thursday. The quarterfinal round is slated for Friday, the semifinal round on Saturday and the 36-hole final on Sunday.
Arendell is competing in his fifth amateur championship.
In 2009-10, Arendell appeared in all 12 tournaments for the Knights. His best performance came at the Conference USA Championship in nearby Sorrento. He tied for second at 2-under 214, helping UCF take the conference crown for the second-straight year. Arendell was in his first campaign in Orlando after transferring from Louisville.
