UNIVERSITY PLACE, Wash. (UCFAthletics.com) - UCF's Connor Arendell (Cape Coral, Fla.) is heading to the round of 32 at the U.S. Amateur Championship at Chambers Bay. On Wednesday, the junior opened match play by defeating Eric Steger, 2 up, in the round of 64.

Arendell, who is competing in his fifth U.S. Amateur Championship, will return to action Thursday. He will meet Chan Kim for the right to advance to the round of 16. Stroke play at the event concluded Tuesday and Arendell tied for 13th at 2-over 144.

Both the round of 32 and round of 16 will be played Thursday. The quarterfinal round is slated for Friday, the semifinal round on Saturday and the 36-hole final on Sunday.

According to the latest Golfweek/amateurgolf.com player rankings, Arendell is listed as the 63rd rated amateur golfer in the United States. This past season, he appeared in all 12 events for the Knights, and helped head coach Bryce Wallor's squad claim the Conference USA Championship. The 2009-10 campaign was his first season in Orlando after transferring from Louisville.
