ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - The UCF rowing team will hold an informational meeting on Aug. 30 for female students interested in trying out for the Knights' program for the 2010-11 season. The meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. in the Cape Florida Ballroom in the Student Union.

The meeting is open to all full-time female UCF students who are interested in learning more about the women's rowing program and will cover what is required to tryout for the team, what the novice year is like and the vast opportunities offered to women who are members of the team. No previous rowing experience is required to join the squad.

Students are encouraged to bring a copy of their class schedule to the meeting.

Please contact assistant coach Joel Furtek by email at jfurtek@athletics.ucf.edu or by phone at 407-823-3558 with any questions, concerns or if you are unable to attend the meeting.

During the last four years, the Knights have raced in ten states, placed second as a team at the inaugural Conference USA championship and competed at the NCAA Rowing Championship, all while maintaining a 3.24 grade point average.

Team members have also raced internationally in Canada, Germany and Belarus, and have represented their countries at the Under-23 Worlds.

In that same time, UCF built the Intercollegiate Rowing Center, upgraded its fleet of 20 racing shells and hired a rowing staff of three full-time coaches, a graduate assistant and a boathouse director. Every member of the staff has coached or competed at the NCAA Championship.

It does not cost anything to row for UCF, and all your travel, equipment and entry fees are paid. Along the way you will also receive Nike gear, incredibly valuable life skills and the opportunity to represent UCF.
