ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - UCF men's soccer has certainly played an influential role on the international scene in recent years, and another Knight has traveled overseas this year. Former UCF forward James Georgeff is playing for Torgelower SV Greif which competes in the fifth tier of German football.
After his final season with the Knights in 2007, Georgeff was drafted by the MLS' Houston Dynamo after his collegiate career. He now is competing in Germany where his team faced Hamburg SV in the German Cup this past weekend. Even though Torgelower SV Grief suffered a 5-1 loss, they were tied 1-1 at halftime against Hamburg which competes at the top level in Germany and defeated Chelsea last week in a Premier League preseason friendly.
Georgeff is the only non-European Union player on his team and is receiving a lot of publicity since he attended college in the United States. Typically soccer players in Europe do not have that type of educational background.
Back at home, the UCF men's soccer team is busy with preseason camp and will travel to the College of Charleston Saturday in a 6 p.m. scrimmage.
