ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - UCF women's golfers Katie Detlefsen (Eagan, Minn.) and Valentina Fontaine (Santiago, Chile) have been named to the National Golf Coaches Association's All-American Scholar Team. One of the more stringent lists of any similar award in college sports, recipients must maintain at least a 3.5 cumulative grade point average and play in at least half of their team's tournaments.

Detlefsen has been named to the team in each of her three years as a Knight. Last month she became the first ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American in the program's history . She graduated in two years with a 4.0 GPA and has maintained that perfect average through her first year of graduate school. Detlefsen was also an All-Conference USA golfer on the links this year with a 77.28 stroke average. For doing everything so well, Detlefsen received the 2010 LPGA's Dinah Shore Award, a prestigious national honor given to the collegiate golfer who best combines success on the course, in the classroom and in the community.

Fontaine had a solid freshman campaign in Orlando, earning a spot on the All-Conference USA team as well. Fontaine led the Knights with a 76.79 stroke average, five par-or-better rounds and three top 10 finishes. She topped UCF five times on the year, three times in the fall and twice in the spring. She was named the C-USA Golfer of the Week after her sizzling 211 lifted her to second place at the FIU/Pat Bradley Invitational on Oct. 26-27. The 211 set a school record for a par-72 course. She also tied for sixth overall, and led UCF, at October's the Eat A Peach Collegiate in Macon, Ga. and tied for both seventh place and the UCF lead at the Hurricane Invitational as the Knights claimed the team title in Miami Lakes.
