ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - UCF women's basketball assistant coach Courtney Locke has been promoted to recruiting coordinator, head coach Joi Williams announced Tuesday morning. The 2010-11 season will be Locke's third with the Knights.
"Since joining our staff Courtney has proven to be a valuable asset to our program both on the court and with our recruiting efforts," said Williams. "She is certainly deserving of this promotion and I am confident that she will continue to help us build a championship program."
In addition to her recruiting duties, Locke works primarily with the team's perimeter players and assists with scouting. During her first season on the staff, Locke helped the Knights to the 2009 Conference USA Tournament title and a berth in the NCAA Tournament.
"I'm both excited and thankful for this opportunity," said Locke. "I have really enjoyed my two seasons working at UCF and look forward to continuing to help build this program in the coming years."
Locke, who has been with UCF since prior to the 2008-09 season, previously worked at the University of Texas San Antonio.
In her playing days, Locke was a four-year letterwinner at Rutgers from 2002-06. While a player with the Scarlet Knights, Locke had the opportunity to learn from one of the nation's best coaches, C. Vivian Stringer. Locke played in 126 games with 26 starts at the guard position at Rutgers. As a senior, Locke started five games and knocked down 39.4 percent of her three-pointers as Rutgers went 27-5 overall and 16-0 in Big East play.
The Knights will return all five starters at UCF from the 2009-10 season, including leading scorer Chelsie Wiley (Riviera Beach, Fla.). Wiley, who has scored 1,069 points and made 134 three-pointers in her career, will be one of five seniors on an experienced UCF squad.
The program will be appearing in the 2010 Preseason Women's National Invitational Tournament for the first time to open the 2010-11 season, playing at Florida on Nov. 13.
