ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - The primetime national spotlight will shine upon UCF when Knights will host Conference USA opponent UAB on Wednesday Oct. 6. The game will be aired live on ESPN at 8 p.m. for all of America to see the great atmosphere at Bright House Networks Stadium. This game will also open up conference play for the Knights.
Last season, the Blazers finished up the year 5-7. UCF has a 6-1 advantage in the series with a 4-1 mark against the Blazers since the Knights became a member of C-USA in 2005 with the lone loss coming to close the 2008 season in Orlando.
Offensive Player to Watch
Now a senior, Frantrell Forrest has been UAB's top wide receiver in each of the past three seasons. He ranks amongst the top four in school history with 125 career receptions, 1,657 receiving yards and 16 touchdowns.
Defensive Player to Watch
Defensive tackle Elliott Henigan is the rock in the middle of UAB's defense. He recorded 9.5 tackles for loss and four sacks last fall and made a season-high 10 stops against Texas A&M. Henigan had a total of 47 tackles on the season, 19 of them solos.
Victory over Blazers sends Knights to St. Pete
The Knights fought off a late UAB rally and pulled out a crucial 34-27 victory at Legion Field to finish last season. The victory sent the Knights to their third bowl game under the watch of head coach George O'Leary. The win capped a six-game Conference USA winning streak as UCF became just the second team in C-USA history to finish 6-2 in the league after starting 0-2...Oct. 6 is the latest date that UCF has ever started a conference schedule, topping its Oct. 2, 2004 game at Buffalo in the Knights' final season as a MAC member.
