ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - On Monday, Connor Arendell (Cape Coral, Fla.) of the UCF men's golf team will be among over 100 players in action at the U.S. Open sectional qualifier in Memphis, Tenn. As a sophomore, Arendell was a key part of the Knights' 2009-10 squad that claimed the Conference USA Championship title and participated in the NCAA Regionals.

Between 15 and 20 golfers from the Memphis qualifier will make the U.S. Open, which will be held June 17-20 at Pebble Beach in California. The qualifier will consist of 36 holes Monday played at two different sites - Germantown Country Club and Ridgeway Country Club. The golfers will have a short break in between the rounds.

Arendell earned a spot in the event in Memphis by finishing in a four-way tie for medalist honors in mid-May at local qualifying in Lake Wales, Fla. He carded a 71 at the Lake Wales Country Club.

This past season, Arendell appeared in all 12 tournaments for the Knights. His best performance came at the C-USA Championship in nearby Sorrento. He tied for second at 2-under 214, helping UCF take the conference crown for the second-straight year. Arendell was in his first campaign in Orlando after transferring from Louisville.

Also scheduled to compete in Memphis is former UCF star Cliff Kresge. Kresge turned pro in 1991, and has participated in 198 tournaments on the PGA TOUR.
