ORLANDO, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - UCF women's basketball player Chelsie Wiley (Riviera Beach, Fla.), who has made a name for herself as one of the most prolific scorers in the program's history while playing at the UCF Arena, was at her home arena for a different reason Friday afternoon. Wiley, who completed her redshirt junior season in 2009-10, received her bachelor's degree in criminal justice at a graduation ceremony.
Wiley plans to begin a master's program at UCF and will return to the Knights for her senior season on the court in 2010-11. In her three seasons on the court for head coach Joi Williams, Wiley has scored 1,069 points to become the program's 13th member of the 1,000-point club. She currently ranks eighth all-time in points and has knocked down the third-most three-pointers in program history (134).
This past season, Wiley led the Knights in scoring at 11.6 points per game and knocked down 46 three-pointers. She also shot a team-high 78.7 percent from the free-throw line.
In 2008-09, Wiley was named to the Conference USA All-Conference Third-Team and to the C-USA All-Tournament team. She helped lead the Knights to the 2009 C-USA tournament championship, averaging 15.7 points per game in the team's run to the title.
Wiley will be one of 11 returning players for UCF in the 2010-11 season.
