ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - After an outstanding senior season, Brock Sakey (Gulf Breeze, Fla.) of the UCF men's tennis team was recognized Wednesday with a spot on the All-Conference USA First Team. Sakey concluded his career as the winningest singles player in UCF history.
This spring, he recorded a 15-3 mark in dual-match play. Sakey went 8-1 at No. 2 and also posted a 1-1 record at the No. 1 position. On four occasions, he registered victories over players from nationally-ranked teams. Sakey ended the year on a four-match winning streak.
Sakey's most impressive win during the campaign came on April 3 at Tulsa when he posted a 6-3, 1-6, 6-4 victory at No. 2 over Ashley Watling, the 50th-ranked player in the country.
Sakey concluded his career with 85 singles wins, the most in program history. Including the fall tournament season, he went 21-6 in singles in 2009-10.
The all-league honor marks the second time during his career that Sakey has been recognized by C-USA. In 2006, he was selected as the C-USA Freshman of the Year. The league's head coaches select the all-conference squads.
