ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - On Sept. 4, the UCF football team will open the 2010 slate at home against South Dakota. The contest will mark the start of the Knights' fourth campaign at Bright House Networks Stadium where UCF is 14-6 all-time. UCF and the Coyotes will be meeting for the first time ever.
South Dakota, from Vermillion, SD., is a member of the Great West Conference. The squad went 5-5 in 2009 while facing a tough schedule. The slate included four games decided by less than a touchdown.
Offensive Player to Watch
Junior Dante Warren will get to fill the shoes of Noah Shepard at quarterback. Shepard started all 10 games at quarterback and earned team Most Valuable Player honors after completing 188-of-297 passes for 2,451 yards with 21 touchdowns. Warren was 11-for-18 for 121 yards and a pair of touchdowns in USD's Spring Game.
Defensive Player to Watch
Junior Adam Broders recorded 78 tackles at linebacker in 2009 with five and a half of those tackles being for a loss. He also recovered a fumble and had 1.5 sacks. In just his first year as a starter Broders lead the team in tackles.

Since UCF joined the Football Bowl Subdivision in 1996 the Knights are 17-0 against Football Championship Subdivision programs (including Florida Atlantic in 2003) with all of these games being played in Orlando. The Knights' last loss against an FCS program came at home at the hands of Liberty in 1995. UCF opened its 2009 season with a win over FCS member Samford at Bright House Networks Stadium and its 2008 season opener was a shutout win over FCS member South Carolina State.
