ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - UCF will be among 16 teams competing in the 2010 Preseason Women's National Invitational Tournament, the WNIT announced Tuesday. The Knights, who will make their first appearance in the tournament, will find out their first-round opponent when the WNIT bracket is released in June.
UCF will be joined in the field by: Austin Peay, Charlotte, DePaul, Florida, Hampton, Iona, James Madison, Lamar, Missouri State, Purdue, South Dakota State, Saint Francis (PA), Toledo, Utah Valley and Valparaiso.
The Preseason WNIT features a three-game guarantee format. The event opens Nov. 12-13 with first-round games. Second-round games will be played Nov. 14-15; semifinals will be Nov. 17-18; and the championship is set for Sunday, Nov. 21. Teams that lose in the first two rounds will play consolation games on the second weekend, Nov. 19-20. All games are hosted by participating schools, and sites are announced by the end of the preceding round.
Head coach Joi Williams will return all five starters from the 2009-10 season, including leading scorer Chelsie Wiley (Riviera Beach, Fla.). Wiley, who has 1,069 points and 134 three-pointers made in her career, will be one of five seniors on an experienced UCF squad.
