SANTEE, Calif. (UCFAthletics.com) - Action at the NCAA Regionals at the Carlton Oaks Golf Club continued Friday and the UCF men's golf team is sixth out of 13 squads after two rounds. The Knights (596, +20) are six shots behind fifth-place Tennessee entering Saturday's final round.
UCF posted a 13-over 301 during the second round. Top-ranked Oregon is first at 8-over 584, followed by California (586, +10), No. 12 UNLV (588, +12), No. 13 Augusta State (589, +13). Tennessee, ranked 24th in the country, is at 14-over 590 after 36 holes.
The top five squads after the final round will advance to the NCAA Championship. The event will be held in Chattanooga, Tenn., from June 2-6.
UCF is two strokes ahead of host San Diego State and New Mexico State. Both squads are tied for seventh at 598 (+22).
Entering the final 18 holes, UCF sophomore Brad Schneider (Valrico, Fla.) is tied for 18th at 148 (+4). Seniors Devin Spies (Sarasota, Fla.) and Simon Ward (County Monaghan, Ireland) are tied for 28th (149, +5). Sophomore Connor Arendell (Cape Coral, Fla.) is tied for 35th at 6-over 150 and junior Nuno Henriques (Funchal, Portugal) is tied for 50th at 152 (+8).
The Knights entered the second round in fifth, but were just one shot behind four teams who were tied for first.
UCF is competing in the regionals for the fourth-consecutive year. Head coach Bryce Wallor's team earned a spot in the regionals by claiming the Conference USA Championship last month.
